Following his departure from Russian club Krasnodar as a result of the invasion of Ukraine, former French international Rémy Cabella has returned to the club of his youth, Montpellier, as announced by the club this morning.

The 32-year-old spent a total of 10 years with the Southern club, from 2004-2014, including four seasons in Ligue 1, one of which being a title-winning one (2011/12).

Having left Montpellier nearly 8 years ago, Cabella has played for the likes of Newcastle, Marseille and Saint-Étienne, the latter of which had been a potential option for a return to Ligue 1.

Having played 62 games for Krasnodar, the midfielder spoke about the speed with which he had to leave the club a few weeks ago. Despite his eight-year hiatus from his boyhood club, Cabella has accumulated more appearances (116) with Montpellier than with any of his other five clubs.
