Vivianne Miedema expressed her ‘frustration’ of having to sit out for a long period after joining City, but was ‘happy’ to be on the scoresheet in a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Ipswich at the Joie Stadium.

Gareth Taylor’s side dominated possession in the first-half and that was rewarded through a Jill Roord strike, low into the bottom left corner.

Laura Coombs added a crucial second 10 minutes into the second-half, before Vivianne Miedema was brought on at the hour mark for her long awaited return from injury.

And she was quickly back with a goal soon after, with a low powerful shot across the Ipswich keeper, and in her post-match interview, the Netherlands international was relieved to be back in action.

“Obviously it’s been a while and it’s been frustrating for me to have to sit out,” Miedema began.

"But I’ve come back in [and for the goal] Chloe played a really good ball into me, so I’m happy to start scoring again and hopefully I’ll stay fit now.”

“It now feels like that’s the end of my rehab and I can move on.

“When you come back from injury, and especially for players like me, people expect you to score goals again, and I’m happy that today I scored today and I can move forward now.”

City’s no.6 has been out for three months after coming off injured in a 2-0 win against Barcelona in the UEFA Women’s Champions League at the start of October.

After returning to action with a goal, Miedema feels like she’s ready to kick-on and start making an impact on the team that brought her here in the Summer.

“I feel fine now, I’ve done a lot of team training over the last few days and it’s probably the strongest I’ve felt since coming back from injury.

“I can gain a lot of confidence from that and we can keep building for the next couple of games as it’s been a tough period.

“Once you move to a new club, you want to be involved in the games, and want to be part of the team.

“I’ve not always been there this year, and that’s sad, so hopefully in the next few weeks or months I can be part of the team a lot more and the help the team.”
