According to Mundo Deportivo, although it is almost certain that Inaki Pena will leave Barcelona this summer, every suitor linked with the goalkeeper is facing the same problem, making the move quite difficult to execute.
The goalkeeper has already accepted that Hansi Flick does not see him as part of his long-term project, and he does not want to stand in the way of the club’s plans.
For that reason, Pena and Barcelona have agreed on a solution that he will renew his contract for one more season before heading out on loan.
Talks between his agent and the sporting director, Deco, have already taken place to finalise the details.
The arrangement ensures that Barcelona will not lose him for free while also giving the player a chance to get the regular minutes he is not expected to have under Flick.
However, despite interest from several clubs, his move has not yet gone through.
Clubs such as Como, Celta Vigo, Galatasaray, and more recently Girona have all shown serious interest in Pena.

Yet all of them are dealing with the same obstacle, which is the need to free up space before they can bring him in.
Some must sell an existing goalkeeper to make room in the squad, while others need to raise money to comply with financial fair play rules. Until one of these clubs resolves its situation, Pena’s loan transfer cannot be completed.
Barcelona and Pena’s camp expect progress soon and are hopeful the move will be sealed before the transfer window closes.
Ideally, they would like to avoid waiting until deadline day, but they remain prepared for a late resolution.
Once the goalkeeper leaves, Barça will finally be able to register Wojciech Szczesny, who is expected to be available by the third La Liga matchday when the team face Rayo Vallecano.
In the meantime, Pena is likely to stay with the squad for this weekend’s clash against Levante, where he will again serve as backup to Joan Garcia.
