The reason for the recent absence of Manchester City midfielder Rodri from Spain training has been revealed ahead of an international friendly on Tuesday evening.

Spain host Brazil in an international friendly at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday evening, with Rodri and Manchester City travelling to the Real Madrid stadium next month for a UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash.

The 27-year-old is one of several Manchester City players Pep Guardiola will be sweating on in midweek, with the Sky Blues hosting Arsenal in a crunch Premier League clash on Sunday, and already facing the prospect of being without three major players.

Manchester City are set to play 10 matches before the end of the April, with the Cityzens bidding to retain last season’s historic treble, with upcoming showdown fixtures in the Premier League, Champions League and Emirates FA Cup.

Kyle Walker is a potential fitness doubt after suffering a suspected hamstring injury for England at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, meanwhile both Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson have missed international duty due to muscular injuries.

Jack Grealish was also omitted from Gareth Southgate’s England squad due to fitness concerns, with the 28-year-old having seen his campaign plagued by a series of injury issues.

Guardiola has also seen concerns for the fitness of both Erling Haaland and Matheus Nunes during the international break, with the pair both suffering suspected issues during training sessions.

Concern surrounding Rodri’s recent absence from Spain training have been quelled however, providing a major boost to Manchester City fans ahead of a number of defining fixtures.

Regional outlet Mundo Deportivo report that the midfielder missed a recent training session due to an unwell family member, with no current fitness concerns for the Spaniard.

Rodri has started 37 matches for Manchester City so far this season and is set to play a key role in the Blues’ silverware ambitions, with the 27-year-old integral to Guardiola’s midfield set-up.

The midfielder is facing a disciplinary tight-rope upon returning from international duty however, with Rodri just two yellow cards away from a two-match ban in the Premier League, with four matches remaining until the reset.

City face three Premier League matches before traveling to Real Madrid, with games against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace prior to a meeting with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
