Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois ‘forgotten’ by Belgium for Euro 2024

As Belgium released their squad for Euro 2024, one name was notable only by his absence. Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper who will start the Champions League final on Saturday evening, was left out despite his return to fitness.

The clashes between Courtois and Belgium head coach Daniel Tedesco have been well documented and led to Thibaut ruling himself out of the upcoming tournament on Injury grounds.

But with Courtois over his injury and back to playing, and his name still absent from the squad list, it very much seems as though he has played his last game for Belgium.

Three other La Liga players have made the Belgian squad, namely Axel Witsel and Arthur Vermeeren, both of Atlético Madrid, and Dodi Lukebakio of Sevilla.

Tedesco had the option to name 26 players in his squad list but only named 25, making his omission of Thibaut Courtois an even more glaring one.

The Red Devils were never going to be heading to Germany as favourites for the tournament, but many will be left to wonder whether Courtois being in the squad may have helped their chances, had the player and coach managed to put their differences aside and buried the hatchet.
