With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Real Madrid all-time XI.
Today we’re choosing the right-back.
Here are the nominees …
Spent his entire 18-year career at Real Madrid, winning seven LaLiga titles including the famous five-in-a-row during the mid-to-late 1980s.
For eight years until 1990 he was ever-present for Los Blancos, playing 297 games out of a possible 320 as the capital club swatted everyone aside domestically.
Part of five European Cup triumphs in the 1950s, the first truly great club side of the 20th century.
Marquitos played over 150 times for Los Blancos and was well-known for his ultra-attacking style – a rarity for a defender at the time.
And fun fact: he’s the grandfather of Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso.
Another decade-long servant at Real Madrid and a true club great.
Salgado redefined what it meant to be a right back in modern football, becoming a quasi-attacker down the right and playing an integral part of that famous Galacticos side.
As Steve McManaman once said: “The first Spanish I ever learned was Michel saying ‘cover me!'”
Here’s how the team is looking so far …
GK: Iker Casillas RB: Michel Salgado
Check back tomorrow when we will be choosing Real Madrid’s greatest ever … left-back.
