In a recent report, AS has mentioned that Real Madrid are willing to be patient in their pursuit of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga after postponing their plans to sign him until the end of this campaign. It is understood that Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is planning to refresh his ageing midfield department by adding the French player to his squad next summer (via AS).
The 17-year-old has made a brilliant start to this Ligue 1 campaign after scoring one goal and providing one assist in six appearances for Julien Stephan’s side recently. At such a tender age, Camavinga has already established himself as a top performer at the Roazhon Park.
The French youngster was involved in 36 matches for Rennes in the previous campaign, registering one goal, two assists and six yellow cards across all fronts. The talented teenager managed to influence the game in both halves as he averaged 4.2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.6 shots and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the French top tier last season. Camavinga even took care of the ball well when distributing possession from midfield as evident from his pass success rate of 87.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).
The Ligue 1 prospect has the potential to become a generational talent, so Los Blancos will do well to lure him away to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium at the end of this campaign.
Camavinga is a well-rounded midfielder who can contribute by doing a bit of everything at the centre of the park. He loves a tackle in midfield and has made a habit of winning possession back for his team. The French starlet is also an accurate distributor of the ball but needs to add a few more goals and assists to his game if he intends to become a world-class two-way midfielder in the future.
Camavinga’s hunger to succeed, coupled with his work-rate in midfield, makes him a valuable squad player for any top-flight side in Europe. Plus, his ceiling his sky-high, so he could prove to be a massive coup for the Madrid giants in the long-run.
The French whizkid could serve as an ideal long-term replacement for the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric at the Spanish capital but would struggle to get regular opportunities under Zidane. Even then, Camavinga would be tempted by the possibility of joining Los Blancos next summer as it will offer him a chance to win some silverware at the highest level.
All in all, Zidane should try everything in his power to orchestrate a move to bring the Frenchman to Spain when they might have the financial resources to pull off such a deal at the end of this campaign.
