Among all the players who were linked with a move away from Real Madrid this summer, Dani Ceballos was perhaps the closest to departing.

After struggling to find suitors all summer, the Spaniard had become a late option for Marseille, who were interested in a loan deal.

Every necessary detail for the transfer was already done, and the midfielder was destined for a move to Ligue 1.

However, the move collapsed at the last minute, with reports suggesting that Ceballos was hesitant about joining Marseille.

Why Ceballos move really broke down

However, a recent report from Le Journal du Real has offered key insights into the Ceballos deal, explaining the exact reason why his move to Marseille broke down.

The report suggests that there was indeed a complete agreement between Real Madrid and Marseille for the transfer of Dani Ceballos.

However, the move collapsed because the midfielder decided to ask for additional commissions – something that put Marseille off.

Ceballos sabotaging the deal at the last minute doesn’t exactly paint him in a positive light, especially considering the fact that the player had no prospects under Xabi Alonso this season.

However, on the flip side, it must be noted that Ceballos did feature as a substitute in the last game against RCD Mallorca and it appears Alonso has made it clear that he will give opportunities to everyone.

Keeping in mind Real Madrid midfield’s injury woes, coupled with Jude Bellingham currently being sidelined, there is a possibility Ceballos may receive more game-time than one would think.

The Spaniard, in fact, has four months to impress Xabi Alonso before he once again starts getting linked with moves to other clubs.
