Over the course of the last few months, the renewal of Toni Kroos has been one of Real Madrid’s top priorities.

The German midfielder has always been hell-bent on retiring while he is still at the top of his game, which is also why he called curtains on his German NT tenure in 2021.

However, he decided to return to Die Mannschaft for this upcoming 2024 European Championship at Julian Nagelsmann’s request, which understandably raised optimism within the Real Madrid camp about his continuity.

And if recent reports, from Fabrizio Romano, are to be believed, Kroos has decided to continue at Madrid for another season, and will put pen to paper officially soon enough.

And through that extension, as reported by AS, Real Madrid could end up saving millions this summer.

No replacement needed

While Real Madrid’s midfield does seem stacked on paper, with Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric, and Dani Ceballos in the squad, none of them do quite what Kroos has to offer.

The German’s temperament, control, and range of passing are arguably second to none in Europe, and all massively appreciated assets by Carlo Ancelotti.

Had Kroos decided to retire at the end of the season, Madrid would have likely had to go into the market to sort out a replacement for him.

While they have not been linked to any midfielder ahead of the window, Madrid could have pursued someone like Joshua Kimmich, who seems interested in leaving Bayern Munich this summer.

Kroos has averaged the last three seasons with a bizarre 95% total accuracy, which speaks about his consistency, more than anything.

However, this season Kroos’ accuracy has fallen to 94%, which is more than what most midfielders can ever aspire to reach.

The World Cup winner is aspiring to end the season by reigniting his 95% accuracy of seasons past before he leaves for the 2024 European Championship.
