In the wake of Real Madrid’s triumph in La Liga, Luka Modric has officially become the joint-most successful player at the club, with a total of 25 trophies.

He shares the iconic milestone with three other equally iconic Real Madrid legends – Marcelo, Karim Benzema and his current teammate Nacho Fernandez.

But while Nacho looks likely to leave Real Madrid after 23 years, there is still a possibility of Modric prolonging his spell at the Bernabeu.

Modric wants to stay at Real Madrid

That is according to Diario AS, which suggests that Luka Modric wants to continue at Real Madrid in the wake of his recent success at the club.

During the early stages of the campaign, it must be remembered that Modric was struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular. His lack of game time even led to widespread speculation over his future.

Many even expected Modric to put an end to his career at Real Madrid at the end of the season, especially amid widespread interest from Saudi Arabia as well as his former club Dinamo Zagreb.

However, it appears Modric is determined to continue at Real Madrid at least for another season.

Real Madrid won’t stand in the way

Real Madrid have historically been very strict in regard to allowing older players to continue at the club for long.

But in the case of Modric, the club will not stand in the way of his desire to continue at the Bernabeu. As such, Real Madrid are ready to hand Modric a contract extension until 2025.

Real Madrid are also expected to renew the contract of another midfield veteran Toni Kroos. Modric’s continuity, to that end, could make even more sense as these two continue to guide an otherwise young Real Madrid midfield.
