Real Madrid have been ranked as the best team in the history of the European Cup. Our club stood top of the pile at the close of 2020 in the UEFA rankings that are drawn up on the basis of a system that awards two points for a win and one for a draw in the games contested since the competition's inception. Real Madrid, the continent's most decorated side with 13 trophy triumphs, lead the standings on 607 points and sit ahead of Bayern Munich (495 points and six continental crowns) and Barcelona (459 points and five trophies).

As well as having won the most European Cups, Real Madrid boast the highest number of wins (265) and have scored the most goals (984). The Whites come in ahead of their nearest pursuers: Bayern Munich (211 wins and 742 goals) and Barcelona (193 wins and 651 goals). Meanwhile, since the competition's maiden edition in 1955, our club has racked up the most tournament campaigns, with this season's being our 51st.

Top 10 clubs The UEFA rankings feature the top 30 teams based on these statistics. Lying behind Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are Manchester United (380 points and three European Cups), Juventus (361 points and two crowns) and AC Milan (314 points and seven trophy successes). These sides are followed by Liverpool (298 points and six trophies), Benfica (287 points and two European Cups) and Porto (286 points and two continental triumphs), whilst Ajax complete the top 10 (271 points and four trophies).
