England head coach Gareth Southgate has provided an insight into the injury suffered by Manchester City star John Stones on Tuesday.

Stones, for his part, set alarm bells ringing back in Manchester, late last night.

As much came upon the versatile defender limping out of England’s friendly meeting with Belgium, inside the opening ten minutes of action.

After pulling up in the middle of the park with what appeared to be a muscular problem, Stones was swiftly hauled off, replaced by Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.

Speaking to the media post-match, the subject of the 29-year-old’s wellbeing was in turn inevitably put to the aforementioned Gareth Southgate.

This comes with Stones’ Manchester City just weeks out from a crunch Champions League double-header with La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

And England’s boss went on to confirm that Stones has picked up a problem in his adductor, the extent of which will be revealed by an upcoming round of medical tests:

“John Stones had to leave the pitch due to a problem with his adductor, more tests will follow.”
