What initially seemed like another transfer rumour that would be shot down and dismissed, is here to stay. Vinicius Junior has become the latest marquee target for Saudi Arabian football, and they are prepared to pay over the odds for him.

That is according to Diario AS, who say that Vinicius and his camp do not want to rule out a move to Saudi Arabia, and want to hear their offer first. Real Madrid were this week contacted by the Saudi intermediaries about a potential move, and pointed them to Vinicius’ €1b release clause, as they do not want to sell him.

They will now make a formal offer for Vinicius to Real Madrid, and the same source say that the player and his camp are in a state of shock at the move and the potential figures, and want to explore the possibility before rejecting it. Vinicius is happy in the Spanish capital, but he wants to hear out their offer.

While no formal offer has been made to the player either, the proposal most widely reported is a five-year contract which would net Vinicius in excess of €1b, and would see him become an amabassador for the 2034 World Cup. The offer being touted for Real Madrid is around €400m, which as pointed out by the Madrid-based paper, are numbers that would make anyone think twice.
