A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has agreed to slash his wages, to ensure his continuation with the club beyond the summer.

That’s according to TeleMadrid, amongst other outlets, who point towards Luka Modrić as the player in question.

The subject of veteran midfielder Modrić’s future has of course long dominated the headlines in Spain’s capital.

As much comes ahead of the expiration of his current terms with Carlo Ancelotti’s troops upon the season’s close.

Modrić himself has long made clear that his only intention is to stay put, eager to see out the remainder of his playing days in the famed white of Real.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, the Croatian looks set to have his wish imminently granted.

As per the aforementioned TeleMadrid, Modrić held a three-hour meeting with the Santiago Bernabéu brass on Friday.

During the discussion between the parties, the 38-year-old offered up a 50% reduction on his current wages, to facilitate a one-year contract renewal.

And as much, it would appear, has done the trick, amid further confirmation that ‘everything has been agreed’ for Modrić’s terms to be extended through the summer of 2025.
