In a recent report, ESPN mentioned that Real Madrid have been offered a chance to sign Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the Ecuadorian talent in this summer transfer window.
Hincapie put in a run of impressive displays at the heart of Leverkusen’s backline in the previous campaign. The 23-year-old made 45 appearances for the German club last season, scoring three goals and earning a couple of assists in various competitions.
The Ecuador international was a rock at the back as he made 52 tackles, 40 blocks and 32 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half based on his pass completion rate of 87.9% in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, it would be difficult for Los Blancos to recruit him on the cheap this off-season.

Hincapie is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to make some important interceptions for his team on the defensive third of the field. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Ecuador international can even play his way out from the back. Hincapie is primarily a centre-back but can also fill in as a left-back or as a left-sided wide player if needed. However, he might need some time to adapt to life in La Liga if Real Madrid manage to secure his services in this summer transfer period.
We can expect Hincapie to add more bite and steel to Los Blancos head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He has what it takes to compete for a regular starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next season.
At 23, Hincapie has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Madrid giants to consider in this summer transfer period. He might even help Real Madrid challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Thus, Alonso would be wise to snap him up before the end of this transfer window, but only if he can get him for a reasonable fee.
