Xabi Alonso has been at the helm of Real Madrid for a few weeks now, and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup has already given him a chance to assess the squad and identify key weaknesses. One area he’s looking to strengthen is the midfield, and he reportedly has his eye on a PSG player.

It won’t be an easy pursuit. PSG’s midfield trio of Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, and João Neves played a crucial role in the club’s dominant season, helping them win Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League, and the Coupe de France.

Still, a major offer from Madrid could test PSG’s resolve—or even make the player consider a move away from Paris.

Defensa Central reports that Alonso believes Real Madrid could struggle if they don’t find a proper replacement for Luka Modrić or Toni Kroos, with PSG midfielder Vitinha high on their list of targets.

Real Madrid are recently looking to bolster their midfield, though there doesn’t appear to be a clear target yet. Journalist Rubén Cañizares spoke about the situation during a recent appearance on Rubén Martín’s Twitch channel.

He noted that a large portion of the club’s budget is expected to be allocated to strengthening the midfield.

“When it comes to the central midfield spot, that’s where the money is,” Cañizares said. “There’s a lot of cash to sign a player there—it’s not going to come cheap. But I think what Real Madrid wants is practically impossible, which is why they’re not very sure yet. If the club could sign someone, it would be Vitinha, but they can’t.”

A recent report from Defensa Central revealed that Jorge Mendes has already made PSG’s stance clear: if Vitinha wants to leave, it’ll cost no less than €130 million. That’s a steep asking price—one Real Madrid isn’t currently willing to meet.
