Dani Ceballos has been in the headlines in the Real Madrid spheres over the past couple of days. After all, the 29-year-old midfielder was tipped to join Olympique de Marseille before he decided to pull out of the move.
Everything seemed to have been agreed between all the parties before Ceballos decide to perform a U-turn.
It was suggested that the decision was motivated by Ceballos’ desire to return to his boyhood club Real Betis, but it has since emerged that the La Liga club have no interest in a move and are focused on other targets.
Now, speaking on Radio MARCA journalist Ramon Alvarez has claimed that Ceballos decided against joining Marseille due to financial reasons.

“Ceballos isn’t going to Marseille for financial reasons. He made a very strange move: he asked Madrid to negotiate with Olympique de Marseille, Madrid reached an agreement,” the journalist stated.
“When the time came to sign the contract, Ceballos either changed the terms or had a financial disagreement with Olympique de Marseille,” he further added.
Irrespective of what the reasoning might have been, Ceballos’ move to Marseille if off now while Real Betis are also not planning to make a move for him at the moment.
As such, unless nothing happens, the Spanish midfielder appears set to stay put at Real Madrid for one more season.
It will now be up to Ceballos to prove to manager Xabi Alonso that he is deserving of a bigger role in the team, and early signs seem to suggest that he is up for the challenge.
