Last night, Real Madrid received a massive boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham as it was confirmed by multiple reliable sources that Liverpool had decided to drop their interest in the Englishman.
This development came just hours after it was reported that the Reds had made an opening offer for the 19-year-old midfield sensation.
Now, according to fresh reports from BILD (h/t SportBuzzer), Bellingham does not favour a move to clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain which puts Real Madrid in the driver’s seat to sign Bellingham in the summer.
Some reports had suggested that Manchester City would now be the frontrunners to sign the England international as Real Madrid were reluctant to spend heavily on transfers due to their stadium renovation expenses.
But, as per the claims from BILD, Manchester City, along with Chelsea and PSG, are seen as ‘unattractive and soulless’ by Bellingham, which points towards a move for Real Madrid for the 19-year-old prodigy.
The report states that Bellingham is more interested in playing for a prestigious club with values like passion, honour, and reputation than money with teams such as PSG, Man City and Chelsea.
The BILD report also claims that Real Madrid would be willing to shell out a sum of €100 million in fixed transfer fees for Bellingham plus add-ons to take the total package to around €130-150 million. They would also be open to handing him a contract worth €20 million per year.
A stay at Borussia Dortmund is not entirely ruled out, but the German giants will have to table a new contract offer worth at least €15 million per year, which would make him the highest earner at the club. As things stand, though, an exit seems likely.
A report from the Independent also states that Real Madrid are now the favourites to sign Bellingham. At the same time, though, it does not rule out Bellingham staying in Germany for one more season.
Meanwhile, SPORT1’s Patrick Berger is claiming that Chelsea and PSG do not have many chances to sign the youngster as he is uninterested. But he states that the two Manchester clubs are still in the running.
So, with varying reports emerging on the future of Bellingham, it remains to be seen how things pan out. What seems certain at this point is that Liverpool are out of the race and Real Madrid are one of the favourites to clinch his signing.
