Real Madrid dished out a gritty and resolute performance enroute to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals as they eliminated Manchester City via penalty shootouts.
Given their past poor record at the Etihad, there were concerns heading into the game, but Carlo Ancelotti & co. toughed it out for 120 minutes before edging Pep Guardiola’s men out in the penalties.
Every player that stepped out on the pitch put in an immense performance for Real Madrid and did what was asked of him, putting in serious shifts to keep Man City at bay.
With a place in the semi-final now booked, Real Madrid will be facing Bayern Munich in the tie, after the German giants defeated Arsenal in their quarter-finals.
However, Real Madrid will have to make do without one of their most important players for the first leg of the semi-finals as key man Dani Carvajal has been ruled out through suspension.

Carvajal started the game at right-back and was involved in an intense battle, first with Jack Grealish and later with Jeremy Doku and he fought hard to keep the City forwards at bay.
However, in the first period, the Spanish international was forced to commit a foul on Grealish after getting beaten by the Englishman, which earned him a booking.
It was Carvajal’s third yellow card of the season in the UEFA Champions League, which means an automatic one-match suspension for the veteran.
As such, the veteran defender will now miss the first leg of the semi-finals against Bayern Munich, which will be played away at Allianz Arena later this month.
Carvajal has been ever-present in defence for Real Madrid this season and has put in some top-notch displays. As such, his absence will be a crucial one and Ancelotti will turn to Lucas Vazquez to fill the void.
