Real Madrid have reportedly begun negotiations with Conte over becoming their next coach.
At least that’s according to two separate stories in the Italian press on Thursday that claims the former Chelsea tactician is Los Blancos’ preferred choice to replace Julen Lopetegui.
Lopetegui is under pressure after failing to win any of their last four games, and going that time without even scoring a goal – their worst run since 1985.
Both Sportitalia and Corriere dello Sport have revealed that the Real Madrid directors contacted Conte on Monday to ask if he was available.
Conte is still caught up in a legal battle with the Blues over unfair dismissal, as the club refused to pay the €10m penalty for firing him to make way for Maurizio Sarri.
However, he could perhaps be convinced to let that go for the opportunity to take one of the biggest roles in football.
The next couple of matches will be decisive for Lopetegui, as he’ll take on Levante in LaLiga, host Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League and then face his first ever Clásico at the end of the month.
