There is so much going on with Chelsea at the moment it’s hard to keep up.

The season ended in dramatic fashion with the Blues getting into the Champions League, but there hasn’t been a moment’s rest since. It’s straight into transfer season, with the pressure of the upcoming Club World Cup adding to the haste.

There’s a deal almost confirmed for Liam Delap, one in process for Mike Maignan, and one that we’ve already written off. That was the bid for Dean Huijsen, our first major target of the window. We were happy to pay his release clause, but the Bournemouth defender made it clear he preferred to go to Real Madrid.

Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about the interest in Franco Mastanuono.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest Tweet, that might not be the only player we lose out on to Los Blancos this summer. He’s just put it out there that the Spanish giants “have made an approach” for Franco Mastantuono, speaking both to the player’s agent and his club, River Plate.

PSG are mentioned in this Tweet as the other main rivals, but we’ve heard a lot of Chelsea chatter in the last year or so too, as we aim to sign up the best South American youngsters around.

As recently as last month, Romano himself reported that we were “well informed” about the youngster and his situation.

Mastantuono could be a lost cause as Madrid get their teeth in

For all his talent, it seems the 17 year old is low down our list of priorities right now, especially now it’s become clear Madrid are interested. Once they’ve got their eyes on an Argentine wonderkid, it’s pretty much game over in most cases.

Heading to the Bernabeu is a temptation too great to resist in most cases.
