Reading striker George Puscas is seeking a move away from the Select Car Leasing Stadium this summer following an unsuccessful three-year spell in Berkshire, according to an update from journalist Courtney Friday.

The Romanian scored just one goal for the Royals in 25 league appearances during the first half of the 2021/22 campaign, being forced to step up to the starting lineup in the absence of Lucas Joao but failing to take this opportunity to shine.

Even though a replacement failed to come in for Andy Carroll, who left on the expiration of his short-term deal in January to join West Bromwich Albion, the 26-year-old was allowed to go out on loan to Serie B side Pisa during the latter stages of the winter window.

TRUE FALSE

He was at the second-tier side’s training facility at Bearwood yesterday – but didn’t take part in yesterday’s friendly against Maidenhead United and isn’t thought to be in Paul Ince’s plans for next season.

The feeling between the player and the club is seemingly mutual, with the forward wanting to secure a move away from Berkshire this summer and the Royals happy to cash in, according to reporter Friday.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Shane Long is closing in on a return to the second-tier side following an 11-year absence, with the experienced Irishman potentially coming in as his replacement.

The Verdict:

For all parties, a move away is probably ideal because this move quite clearly hasn’t worked out and even though the Royals face making a huge loss on him, it’s a pill they should be looking to swallow.

The departure of the Romanian could potentially give the Berkshire outfit more room on the wage bill for others to come in and that will be especially important considering their restrictions.

An extra two or three players coming in because of Puscas’ potential departure could end up being the difference between relegation and remaining afloat in the Championship once more.

For the player, he isn’t suited to playing alone up front in the second-tier side’s system and it probably wouldn’t benefit his career if he was to remain at the SCL Stadium for next season.

At this point, there’s even a risk he will be overtaken by Long in the pecking order and if both the Irishman and Joao can remain fit and firing, that could either keep the Romanian on the bench or out of the matchday squad altogether.
