Highlights

  1. Terell Thomas has attracted interest from Reading and Blackpool, offering him potential opportunities if he doesn't start regularly for Charlton.
  2. The Royals' recent struggles, including potential points deductions, may hinder their ability to sign new players, making other interested teams the potential favorites to sign Thomas.
  3. Thomas' contract expires in six months.

Reading and Blackpool have both registered an interest in recruiting Charlton Athletic defender Terell Thomas, according to Football Insider.

The Addicks' player has been a reasonably important first-teamer for Dean Holden and Michael Appleton during the 2023/24 campaign.

He may have been an unused substitute in their past few games, but the defender has been useful both at centre-back and as a left-back this term and has caught the eye of a couple of clubs.

Tayo Edun, Lloyd Jones and Michael Hector are keeping him out of the starting lineup at the moment but considering he hasn't been dropped from the matchday squad completely, Thomas may still have hopes of starting regularly under Appleton between their next game and the end of the season.

The player's contract expires in 2024 though and with the ex-AFC Wimbledon man not playing in recent games, he risks being without a club during the summer unless he's offered a new contract or moves on during the January transfer window.

Interested clubs in Terell Thomas

If he doesn't play regularly next month, a move looks more likely than an extension being offered at The Valley, and he could potentially move back to his former side Reading.

The Royals are currently in the League One relegation zone after struggling for much of the campaign, but their recent results will give them a bit of hope.

The EFL charged the Berkshire outfit for continuous non-payment of HMRC back in November and a points deduction could potentially be on the horizon because of that, so Ruben Selles' side desperately need more points on the board.

New signings could help their cause, although their financial situation could prevent them from bringing anyone in, with their cash flow issues well documented.

They had similar issues back in the summer though and were able to bring players in, so there's still hope for Selles yet. However, he can't pay fees, so other interested teams may be the clear favourites to get a deal for Thomas over the line.

The Seasiders are the other team believed to be interested in him, but it remains to be seen whether Neil Critchley can stabilise the ship at Bloomfield Road and get his team back on track.

A couple of poor results in the past weeks have damaged their promotion hopes.

The Royals have struggled in a couple of areas this term.

Their defence has been particularly shaky at times and even though Nelson Abbey has been very good, he has his weaknesses.

Tom Holmes also has his weaknesses, so having another centre-back option could be ideal for the Berkshire outfit.

The left-back department is another area where Selles' side have struggled massively, with Matty Carson and Nesta Guinness-Walker failing to tie down a starting spot there, as well as Clinton Mola.

Jeriel Dorsett is starting regularly there now, but Thomas could be another good player to have on the left if required.
