Sky Germany reports that RB Leipzig are in the final stages of bringing Belgium midfielder Arthur Vermeeren to the Red Bull Arena.
The midfielder has made it clear that he wants to move to Leipzig, as they look to add midfield depth to their squad. The only part of the deal that has yet to be completed is reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the type of move.
Leipzig are uninterested in having a straight loan for the 19-year-old. The three options for the side are a loan with an option to buy, a loan with an obligation to buy or an outright purchase of Vermeeren. The Lier native only joined Atleti from his boyhood club Antwerp in January for €18m.
Fellow Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen had also shown interest in Vermeeren but the midfielder was hesitant to join the club due to how competitive the fight for midfield places are. While at Leipzig, away from Nicolas Seiwald, the club are lacking true defensive midfielders after the injury to Xaver Schlager at the back end of last season.
