The Cityzens reached the knockout stages for the tenth straight season, after topping a group which included Borussia Dortmund, FC Copenhagen, and Sevilla.

City went unbeaten in their group stage campaign, winning four and drawing two of their matches.

Following the conclusion of the group stages, Manchester City had their knockout stage opponents selected, with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig being drawn.

Pep Guardiola’s side should be somewhat familiar with their German opponents, given that they were a part of their group last season.

An integral part of Leipzig’s first match against Manchester City was their striker Christopher Nkunku.

The 25 year-old scored a hat-trick against the Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium during an enthralling 6-3 defeat.

The Frenchman suffered an injury during his country’s training for the World Cup, which has kept him sidelined since November.

However, as reported by the French outlet L’Equipe, Nkunku is on the right path to recovery, which could see him fit for the knockout stage tie against City in late February.

The Sky Blues may get used to playing against Nkunku, as the forward is set to join Chelsea in the summer for the 23/24 campaign.

The first-leg between Manchester City and RB Leipzig will take place on Wednesday 22nd February, with the second leg taking place on Tuesday 14th March.
