After a recent deadlock in negotiations, RB Leipzig have now reached an agreement with Lens to sign Loïs Openda for an initial €38m, according to Kicker. The Belgian forward is now expected to sign a five-year contract with Leipzig, with the player’s medical expected to take place later this week.

Lens, who finished runners-up to PSG, will receive an initial €38m which is expected to rise by success-related bonuses. It’s not reported how much the Ligue 1 side will receive in add-ons, but Leipzig’s latest bid was worth a reported €43m.

The negotiations have been lengthy but it appears that Leipzig are getting their preferred candidate to replace Christopher Nkunku, who joined Chelsea. The Saxony club agreed personal terms with Openda back in the first week of June, with the Belgian forward also visiting the Red Bull Arena and the club’s training facilities, while being “blown away” by the conditions.

After hearing upon Leipzig’s interest, Openda has flirted with a move to the DFB Pokal champions.
