According to L’Équipe, RB Leipzig have joined Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign AS Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche (22).
Akliouche has been one of the star performers in a Monaco side that secured a second-place finish in Ligue 1. As a result, Les Monégasques return to the UEFA Champions League and are therefore hopeful of keeping their squad together this summer. However, Akliouche, alongside Youssouf Fofana, may prove the most difficult asset to retain. The France U21 international has already been linked with a move to PSG by L’Équipe, whilst Nice-Matin have revealed an interest from Manchester City, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Speaking in a roundtable interview, attended by Get French Football News last month, Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro stated that the desire was to retain Akliouche for a further year, at least. L’Équipe now report that another team has joined the race. Numerous teams have made approaches, according to the publication, including RB Leipzig.
Whoever does make a concrete approach will have to be willing to spend big with the Principality club reticent to sell and with the player’s contract running until 2026.
