Tottenham Hotspur plan to use Timo Werner on a regular basis once his loan move is confirmed, according to RB Leipzig technical director Mario Gomez.

Werner has agreed to join Spurs on an initial loan for the rest of the 2023/24 season, while the deal comes with an optional purchase clause worth between £13m and £17m.

Talks between Tottenham, Leipzig and Werner moved quickly last week and the forward is said to have been convinced on the move by Ange Postecoglou.

In an interview with SPORT1, Leipzig director and ex-Germany striker Gomez revealed Spurs have communicated their desire to play Werner regularly.

"It's a win-win for everyone," Gomez said of the deal. "Germany benefits from it. We benefit from this because we get a player going. He will play regularly, that's what Tottenham have conveyed to us."

Werner was withdrawn from Leipzig's squad to face St Gallen in a friendly on Saturday after the club confirmed he was in talks over a move away, while head coach Marco Rose admitted this desire to leave was driven by the forward's ambitions of playing at Euro 2024.

"He wants to go on loan, we wish him all the best. He needs to play as he wants to go to the European Championships and we keep our fingers crossed for him," Rose said.

Werner has played only 386 minutes of club football this season having lost his Leipzig place to summer signing Lois Openda.

Tottenham have been on the lookout for attacking options during the January transfer window and will soon announce the signing of Werner, who is returning to the Premier League following a two-year stint at Chelsea. Werner helped the Blues win the Champions League in 2021 but was widely considered an underwhelming signing due to his inefficiency in front of goal.
