RB Leipzig are confident that Xavi Simons will extend his loan at the club, according to Sky Germany.

Originally, the on-loan PSG man was only supposed to spend one season in the Bundesliga with The Saxons.

However, Leipzig bosses are growing more confident that the Dutch international will continue his development with them. It’s unsure whether discussions between Leipzig and PSG have occurred recently, but the mood is positive in Saxony.

This is assuming that RB Leipzig secures a Champions League spot next season. This is becoming all the more likely with 5th place likely to guarantee passage into the tournament.

Leipzig head coach Marco Rose told Sky that Simons staying is more realistic than others first thought: “He would also be a very important player for me next year. We don’t have complete control over it. The important thing is that we qualify for the Champions League. Then we want to shape the discussions in such a way that we can keep the boy here for another year or two.”

Rose continued: “Xavi gives the impression that he feels comfortable here, is developing well and that overall it is a good environment for him. Accordingly, I am still very positive that we will see him with us next year.”

So far this season, Simons scored 7 goals and assisted on 12 occasions in 29 Bundesliga matches.
