RB Leipzig are closing in on a deal to sign Brazilian striker Romulo from Turkish Super Lig outfit Goztepe, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Negotiations between Leipzig and Goztepe have progressed well over the last couple of days.
The Bundesliga giants are set to pay around €25 million – a fee that would be a record transfer for Goztepe. Romulo has already agreed personal terms.
The 23-year-old has been a standout performer for Goztepe with 22 goals and 13 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
Romulo initially joined Goztepe on loan from Athletico Paranaense before the move was made permanent in early 2025 for €2.5m.
Leipzig’s pursuit of Romulo comes as the club looks to fill the gap left by the sale of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United for €85m.
Romulo’s combination of pace, physicality and link-up play makes him an ideal candidate to bolster Leipzig’s attacking department.
Die Roten Bullen are also pursuing a move for Fabio Silva and Harvey Elliott as they prepare for the possible departure of Xavi Simons.
Leipzig are unlikely to sign Romulo in time for their DFB Pokal clash against Sandhausen on Saturday.
However, the Brazilian should be available to make his debut in next Friday’s Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munich.
Off the back of a seventh-place finish last time out, Leipzig have no European commitments for next season and will be keen to get themselves back on the continental scene.
