Ravel Morrison blames Rio Ferdinand for his smashed BlackBerry phone | OneFootball

Former Manchester United player Ravel Morrison has taken to social media to react to Wayne Rooney’s revelation about smashing his phone during their time together at the club.

According to Rooney, Morrison dared to use his BlackBerry charger in the first team dressing room and it prompted a furious reaction from the former club captain.

Speaking to the official Manchester United podcast, Rooney said: “Everyone could see those issues would be there and quite a few people tried to [intervene]. I spoke to him and smashed his phone up at one point.

“He came into the first team dressing room when he was in the reserves and my phone was in charge so he took it off and put his on.

“It was one of the old BlackBerry phones and it had your email address on the front so I thought it was one of the other lads.

“When I saw it was one of the reserve players at the time I just smashed his phone up.

“Gary Neville was trying to get him to live with him so people were trying different things.”

Morrison, however, claims that it was a prank on him from Rio Ferdinand. A prank that Gary Neville was seemingly in on.

“Rio Ferdinand put my phone on charge for me, I had a U18s game on the way out I gave him my phone… 90 minutes later… phone smashed to tiny pieces,” the 27-year-old tweeted.

“Wayne Rooney, it’s all Rio’s fault. I wouldn’t come in and take your phone off charge.

“I’m sure Gary Neville played some part.”

A bunch of lads up to tricks in the dressing room. It’s always been that way and you can only imagine what the team get up to nowadays whenever they’re away from TikTok…

But you can imagine Morrison’s face, being a youth player, coming in to collect his phone only for it to be smashed by Rooney.

It probably would have been wise for him to pick up the pieces and departure quietly to buy himself a new phone.

At the time, Morrison was regarded as one of the hottest prosperities in European football when he was emerging through the United ranks.

He struggled with the professionalism required to make it at the top and Rooney is of the opinion that his off field issues prevented him from making it at the top level.

Morrison currently plays for ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands.

Rooney added: “I think with the younger players obviously it’s been well documented with Ravel Morrison.

“He was brilliant in training but he had a few issues and it halted his career. We all thought he’d be top level.”
