Some might remember Kevin Danso. Within years, he has become a Top Flight star from a Saints flop, penalizing the club's mistake, of not signing him in 2020.

In recent years, Southampton's managerial role has seen a change of candidates numerous times. Still, not even one of the last few names has been able to replicate what Ralph Hasenhuttl achieved at the club.

Ask anybody, and you'll hear the manager's tenure was one full of tactical masterclasses and calculated risks. Naturally, results flowed in.

And talking of his fandom even now? Well, every Saints fan would love to have him back if possible.

But, you know what, in the face of misfortune, even your best eras can leave behind an aftertaste of remorse. Sadly, this has happened with the Saints again.

In an era marked by brilliant decisions, Ralph Hasenhuttl's rare mistake is stinging Southampton now.

Hasenhuttl's mistake not to sign Kevin Danso hurts Southampton

Which mistake? Well, the Austrian boss didn't trust a young defensive prodigy Kevin Danso, who has become a Premier League superstar now.

So, back in the 2019/20 season, Danso was on loan at Southampton. But except for some instances, he was a flop. As a result, Hasenhuttl wasn't convinced to sign Danso permanently, which would have cost them £3m in the day, as per TBR Football.

But just see the situation now, Danso is thriving in his new Tottenham shirt while Southampton suffers.

In fact, not only does he thrive, but has emerged as the defensive leader for the Spurs. Feel, I am bragging? Well, by the stats, Danso's incoming has seen the club concede a mere 4 goals in their last 4 games.

On the other hand, Southampton has been worse, with them averaging this many goals per match lately.

Safe to say, had Danso been currently at Southampton, the Austrian would have definitely improved their error-prone backline.

But, as they say, there's no place for ifs and buts in Football. Maybe this whole was destined to make the Saints aware of such crucial decisions ahead.
