Raphaël Varane has told Real Madrid that he wants to leave the club this summer after eight years and 16 trophies.
That’s according to a story on TV channel El Chiringuito which claims that the French defender has informed Zinedine Zidane of his decision.
Varane has been heavily linked with moves away from Santiago Bernabéu in the past but it was hoped that Zidane’s arrival as coach would persuade the centre-back to stay on in the capital.
That however, is not the case, with the defender asking the club to listen to offers come the end of the season.
It’s claimed that Madrid, although disappointed to learn of the news, will accept offers of €100m for the 25-year-old – a fee which would make him the most expensive defender in history.
