During the 2023 summer transfer window, several young prospects from the Castilla youth ranks departed Real Madrid, most of them on permanent deals.

One of the young players to depart on loan from the Spanish capital club was Rafa Marin, who joined Deportivo Alaves.

Given that opportunities for academy graduates are hard to come by in such a competitive environment, Real Madrid’s Marin could benefit from increased opportunities at the newly promoted Spanish team

Now, with the season nearing its culmination, the decision appears to be paying dividends as Marin has established himself as a key contributor during this campaign.

Rafa Marin opens up about exit rumours

When questioned about the rumors linking him to Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen team, the 21-year-old downplayed the speculation, emphasizing his commitment to his current role.

“Until the end of the season I am only focused on training here, on playing well and giving the highest level for the team and I don’t want to know anything else until the summer arrives,” Marin remarked in a press conference via Mundo Deportivo.

He additionally claimed that the drive to learn and the determination to improve is what fuels personal growth.

“The desire to learn and the desire to improve are what lead you to improve on a daily basis and to acquire a certain level,” he stated.

Real Madrid will count on Rafa Marin next season

Although the Spaniard has remained tight-lipped over his future, Real Madrid have been impressed with his progress at Alaves and intend to bring him back to the Spanish capital.

Indeed, reports have argued that Rafa Marin will be one of Carlo Ancelotti’s central defense options, along with David Alaba, Eder Militao, Nacho, and Antonio Rudiger.

His performances have impressed the club’s hierarchy and a place back in the squad is no longer a distant possibility.
