Speaking in today’s press conference ahead of France’s semi final clash against Morocco on Wednesday, Les Bleus centre-back Raphaël Varane revealed that he has been in contact with Karim Benzema – and that the currently injured Real Madrid man is “fully behind” France – as transcribed by RMC Sport.
The Ballon d’Or winner had to withdraw from France’s World Cup squad following a last minute thigh injury which hampered his hopes of returning from hamstring and knee issues he had been carrying for he last several months.
Following France’s hard-fought win over England on Saturday evening to secure their spot in the World Cup semi-finals, Benzema had posted a message of support for his international teammates ahead of their clash against Morocco on Wednesday evening, saying “Come on guys, two more games, we’re nearly there… behind you. Vámonos.”
The Frenchman will continue his recovery work at Real Madrid after spending time on holiday at the Indian Ocean Island of Réunion. He had left Doha and the French team on 20 November due to a quadriceps injury in his left thigh and had to abandon his participation in the tournament.
