The hosts welcomed the Herons to Canada for their final game of the season with the pressure on. Yet Toronto FC paid the price after failing to take advantage of a heavily rotated Miami side.

Manager John Herdman was without Federico Bernardeschi through suspension, yet the talents of Jonathan Osorio, Richie Laryea, and Matty Longstaff shone while helping the hosts register 15 shots to four.

Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets didn’t enter until around the hour mark, and while it appeared the points would be split and hopes were still alive for the Canadian club, Miami struck.

Suárez received a ball out on the left wing and teed it up to Leonardo Campana who volleyed home at the death to silence fans at BMO Field.

Toronto FC ends the season with 11 wins, four draws and 19 losses. Inter Miami, meanwhile, continue their hunt for the most points in MLS regular season history.

Toronto FC has officially been eliminated from postseason contention after D.C. United banked a 2-1 win on the road against New England Revolution.
