Jamie Vardy was named as the winner of the Premier League’s Golden Boot this season following an impressive individual campaign, the Foxes forward enhancing his reputation as one of English football’s finest by finishing as the division’s leading scorer for the first time.

Vardy has scored with unwavering regularity at the King Power Stadium in recent seasons, but where does he rank amongst the Premier League’s very best over the course of the past two campaigns?

Here are the rankings of the five players with the most goals over the last two Premier League seasons:

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City (37 goals)

Sergio Aguero’s record-breaking career at Manchester City continued this season with the star setting a host of new landmarks, becoming the highest-scoring non-English player in Premier League history after netting a superb hat-trick against Aston Villa in January.

That treble also saw Aguero also eclipse Alan Shearer for the most ever Premier League hat-tricks, another record for a player who has scored with unprecedented regularity since moving to the Etihad from Atletico Madrid nine years ago.

Aguero scored 21 league goals last season before adding a further 16 this time around, his hopes of becoming the first player to score 20+ goals in six successive seasons ended by a knee injury suffered against Burnley following the Premier League’s restart.

Aguero’s overall haul now stands at a phenomenal 180 goals in just 263 appearances with 37 of those coming over the past two seasons, and the forward will hope to become just the third player – after Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney – to reach the 200-goal landmark next season.

Sadio Mane – Liverpool (40 goals)

Amongst the favourites to be named as the PFA Player of the Year after helping Liverpool to a long-awaited title success this season, Sadio Mane has taken his game to greater heights over the course of the past two seasons.

The Senegalese star won a share of the Premier League’s Golden Boot last season after netting 22 goals, sharing the accolade alongside teammate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before enjoying another productive campaign in 2019/20.

Mane hit 18 goals during the Reds’ march towards the Premier League title, taking his tally to an impressive 40 goals over the course of the past two seasons. The forward’s recent record in front of goal has been bettered by just three players across the entire division, whilst he is now the fourth highest-scoring African player in Premier League history behind only Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor and Yakubu.

Jamie Vardy – Leicester (41 goals)

Vardy once again thrived as a talismanic presence in the Leicester attack to fire the club’s bid to secure Champions League football, his 23 goals seeing him claim the Premier League’s Golden Boot award for the first time in his storied career.

The 33-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down despite entering the twilight of his career, his electric pace and elusive movement still proving problematic for even the Premier League’s best defences.

Vardy became the 29th player to join the Premier League’s illustrious ‘100 club’ this season after reaching a century of top flight goals for Leicester, a remarkable achievement for a player who only made his first appearance in England’s top tier aged 27-years-old.

Brendan Rodgers will hope his leading scorer can continue to fire next season, as the Foxes bid to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on a top four finish.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (41 goals)

Mohamed Salah fell just short of his bid to become the third player to win three consecutive Golden Boots this season, but it was yet another goal-laden season for Liverpool’s ‘Egyptian King’.

Salah has scored prolifically since returning to English football from Roma three years ago, scoring 73 league goals in just 108 appearances since making the move to Merseyside.

The 28-year-old finished as the Reds’ leading scorer once more as they were crowned champions of English football and whilst the forward has developed a reputation amongst some for being selfish, his tally of 10 assists meant only Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne was directly involved in more goals last season.

The duo sit alongside Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min as the only players to reach double figures for both goals and assists in 2019/20, Salah’s 19 goals part of a haul of 41 over the past two seasons.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang – Arsenal (44 goals)

Arsenal‘s determination to tie Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new contract is certainly justified given the club captain’s prolific record since moving to the Emirates, with no player having scored more goals than the 31-year-old over the past two seasons.

Aubameyang won a share of the Premier League’s Golden Boot alongside the aforementioned Salah and Mane during the 2018/19 season, before finishing just one-goal short of Vardy in his bid to win successive accolades.

The Gabonese striker has once again been a shining light in a tumultuous campaign for the north London outfit, scoring 29 goals in all competitions including a match-winning brace in the Gunners’ FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.

That win secured Arsenal’s place in Europe for next season and may prove crucial in keeping the star as he nears a new deal, his impending re-signing a major boost as Mikel Arteta’s side aim to retain the services of one of the division’s best.
