Scorers: Barišić 45′

St. Johnstone soon got into their stride in this Scottish Cup tie, with some slick play leading to a brief shout for a penalty with some slight contact on James Brown in the box.

Rangers would soon have their say though, as Fashion Sakala attempted an acrobatic effort to volley in a spectacular opener from a Ryan Kent cross, but the shot went well wide.

As half-time approached, Borna Barišić launched a dipping free-kick over the wall from 25 yards out, but his effort went just wide. Perhaps that strike gave the Croatian confidence, as he netted on the stroke of half-time, finishing with a brilliant strike on the rebound after Sakala had hit the post.

Into the second half and Rangers almost doubled their lead when Connor Goldson’s powerful header from a corner was really well saved by goalkeeper Remi Matthews.

Another goal was proving to be elusive as Ryan Jack shot wide with an attempt from distance, and an Alfredo Morelos shot was cleared off the line.

St. Johnstone almost made the away side pay for those missed chances as it was their turn to clear off the line, this time James Tavernier denying Theo Blair.

Scott Wright created a lovely opportunity for Morelos with the outside of his boot, but the Colombian put his strike over the bar as Rangers saw out the win.
