The Tigers are reportedly interested in a move for Trabzonspor midfielder John Lundstram.
Hull City are interested in a move for Trabzonspor midfielder John Lundstram to get their summer transfer window business under way.
The Tigers are still seeking a new manager after parting ways with Ruben Selles at the end of the season, with Sergej Jakirovic the latest name to be linked with the hotseat at the MKM Stadium.
As well as needing to appoint a new coach, the playing squad will need some attention in order for the Tigers to clear themselves away from any relegation danger next season after the Yorkshire outfit survived on the final day at Luton Town’s expense.
In an attempt to beef up the ranks as the summer transfer window opening gets nearer, Hull are reportedly lining up a deal to bolster their midfield, as a familiar Championship name could be making a return to the second tier.
As per Turkish outlet Karadeniz Gazete, Hull City are being linked with a move for former Sheffield United and Rangers midfielder John Lundstram, who has been undergoing an overseas stint with Trabzonspor.
The report states that the Turkish giants are not considering placing Lundstram into the first team setup next season and may terminate his contract.
Meanwhile, Hull owner Acun Ilicali is keen to add the 31-year-old to the Tigers’ midfield options, and will step in to sign the Liverpool-born man when he is released from the club, as Hull are unwilling to pay a fee for his services.
Lundstram has only spent one season abroad in Turkey after leaving Rangers and could potentially relocate back to Yorkshire after he had a four-year stint at Bramall Lane.
Originally signing a three-year deal in Turkey, the midfielder has failed to have the desired impact, recording just two goals from 32 Super Lig appearances as Trabzonspor finished their campaign in seventh place.
John Lundstram has proven he can be a reliable asset from his days in the Steel City, with the 5ft 11in midfielder proving to be a dominant, hard-working and passionate figure in the middle of the park.
Helping the Blades reach the heights of the Premier League back in 2019 despite injury troubles, Lundstram was an ever-present player in the top-flight, playing a key role to their rise up the top-flight table before their downfall after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having the versatility to either play in the centre of a midfield three or on the right, Lundstram can be an engine in the Hull midfield if a deal can be completed, possessing vital Championship experience which is just what the Tigers need to push up the table next term.
So reliable in terms of fitness too, a deal on a free transfer could be such a shrewd addition in the early stages of the summer window, and there’s room for optimism for future additions should the 31-year-old sign on the dotted line.
