Rangers fans have spoken — at least a healthy portion of them — and the verdict, as ever, is telling. In a recent Ibrox Noise poll, three potential managerial candidates were put to the test: Davide Ancelotti, Steven Gerrard, and Russell Martin. The result? A resounding preference for one man — and he’s a familiar face.
With over half the visual vote from fans, Steven Gerrard remains the people’s choice to take the reins at Ibrox once more. Despite a mixed exit back in 2021 and an underwhelming stint at Aston Villa, Gerrard’s legacy at Rangers — particularly the 55-title season — still looms large. The fans haven’t forgotten it, and this poll shows many would welcome him back with open arms.
That said, Gerrard isn’t the only high-profile name in the frame. Davide Ancelotti — son of legendary coach Carlo — polled a decent chunk of the vote, clocking in around 30–35%. The young coach has been linked with Rangers for weeks now, and there’s real momentum behind him as a fresh-faced tactician. With pedigree and potential in spades, Ancelotti could be the modern forward-thinker some fans crave. As we said on Ibrox Noise, even Carlo himself has commented on the Scottish speculation, which adds intrigue to the saga.
As for Russell Martin? The current Southampton boss has managed to stabilise his club in the Premier League, but that hasn’t translated into popular support among the Ibrox faithful. With under 15% of the vote, it’s clear his name isn’t igniting passion in Glasgow. Whether it’s due to a lack of connection or doubts about his style remains up for debate.
Interestingly, the fan-driven nature of the discussion may yet shape the board’s decision. The new ownership, which has taken a hands-on role, is said to be watching fan sentiment closely. And with Michael Beale’s insight into what it takes to manage at Rangers still echoing in many circles, experience at Ibrox might tip the scale.
In short, Gerrard remains king in the eyes of many — but Ancelotti’s name is gaining traction. Either way, the clock is ticking, and the pressure is mounting.
