Rangers had to dig deep on Sunday in order to lift hardware at Hampden Park.
Scorer: Tavernier 76′
It was one-way traffic as Philippe Clement’s side dominated the final against Aberdeen, but they were truly made to work for glory.
Rangers registered 17 shots to 10 and held 63% possession with their attacking line peppering Kelle Roos’ goal.
Ross McCausland was particularly lively and thought he broke the deadlock after volleying home at the back post but the goal was ruled out for a foul.
After going unbeaten in their two meetings with Rangers so far this season, a formidable Aberdeen proved to be a tough side to crack.
Unfortunately for Barry Robson’s men, none of their efforts hit the target and the pressure eventually proved too much.
Captain James Tavernier was the hero after he controlled a cross and drove his shot off the ground into the net to help Rangers lift the trophy for the first time since 2011.
