PSV booked their ticket to the Champions League group stage, downing Rangers by an aggregate score 0f 7-3 after a dominant performance in Eindhoven.
Scorers: Saibari 35′, 55′, De Jong 66′, Veerman 78′, Goldson (0G) 81′ ; Tavernier 64′
Rangers were under the cosh from the off, as PSV looked to take the game to their Scottish counterparts.
The Dutch side should have perhaps found the lead in firs 30 minutes when Ismael Saibari sent his point-blank effort towards goal, but a last-ditch save from Jack Butland kept the scoreline untouched.
Saibari made up for his miss in style a few minutes later however, heading home from close-range to grab the lead on the night and on aggregate for PSV, setting the Philips Stadion alight.
Rangers did little to pull themselves back into the tie after the break, and their conservatism was punished relatively quickly by Ismael Saibari once again, who popped up at the back-post to tap in PSV’s second, putting the hosts two ahead on aggregate.
While James Tavernier pulled one back for the visitors to rekindle the tie, PSV reclaimed their two-goal advantage through Luuk de Jong almost immediately at the other end of the pitch to kill the Rangers comeback.
Joey Veerman killed tie in the final 10 minutes with a low, driven effort into the back of the net, before a calamitous Rangers back-pass caught Jack Butland out for PSV’s fifth on the night, solidifying their place in the Champions League group stage.
Meanwhile, Rangers will head into the Europa League after the disappointing second-leg capitulation.
