Scottish Women’s Premier League club Rangers have appointed Birmingham City assistant Jo Potter as their new head coach.

The Gers announced the news via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

Potter has spent the last year working under head coach Darren Carter at Birmingham City. The pair helped the Blues to record a second-place finish in this season’s Barclays Women’s Championship.

Since hanging up her boots in January 2021, Potter has been progressing her coaching career and she will now take up her first head coach role at Rangers. The 38-year-old will be tasked with helping to further establish Rangers’ position at the top end of the Scottish game. The Gers were league champions in 2021/2022 while they were Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup winners last season.

After being appointed Rangers’ new head coach, Potter said “I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to work for this prestigious football club.

“I feel aligned with the club’s ambitions and standards to continually grow and move forward, especially in such a powerful time within women’s football. I can’t wait to get started.”

As a player, Potter enjoyed a career that lasted for more than two decades. She was an influential player for many of the clubs that she represented while Potter was capped 35 times by England at senior level.
