Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is a ‘big-game player’ capable of reaching levels his teammates at Ibrox can’t, journalist Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

The 26-year-old can often be a frustrating figure for the Gers faithful due to his inconsistency, but he is undoubtedly a pivotal player for manager Michael Beale.

Morelos’ future is currently in doubt after he entered the final six months of his existing £33,000-per-week contract with Rangers.

However, according to Football Insider, the Colombia international was not interested in departing the Glasgow giants during January despite interest in his signature.

Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor were linked with a move for Morelos as their transfer window ended later than Scotland’s, but the striker is said to have knocked back their approach.

And it’s even claimed that Rangers have not given up hope of tying the South American star down to fresh terms ahead of the summer.

Beale’s charges could now lose Morelos on a free transfer when the market reopens for business, but it remains to be seen where he will be plying his trade next term.

What has Jones said about Morelos?

When asked about Morelos’ situation, Jones told GMS that he ‘has the ability to raise his game’ to a standard that his Rangers colleagues don’t seem to be able to do.

He said: “I think with Morales, the thing that you've got is he is a big-game player, and he has the ability to raise his game to a level that a lot of the other players can't quite do.

“I know he's probably frustrating to watch from a fans’ point of view in terms of his goalscoring output, but generally, I do think that he brings something to that team, at times, that nobody else is capable of doing.”

How well has Morelos been playing this season?

Morelos got off to a sluggish start this season under former boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst but has found his form once more of late thanks to the arrival of Beale.

The stocky 5 foot 10 ace has scored nine goals in 32 games for Rangers throughout 2022/23, setting up five further strikes for his teammates.

With Rangers still in the hunt for a domestic treble, Beale will surely be grateful that he can call upon Morelos’ services for the remainder of the season at least.
