The forward's performances over the years earned him a big-money move to Chelsea in 2005, under manager Jose Mourinho. He joined the Premier League champions for a reported £21 million, and instantly became a starter in an impressive Blues side.

However, he returned to City just three years later, after winning multiple titles with Chelsea.

His return came after City's billionaire takeover, and he performed well at the club as he helped them become a top club in England.

After falling out of favour at Man City, Wright-Phillips made the move to London to join QPR.

Wright-Phillips joined them on deadline day in August 2011, joining for an undisclosed fee.

Of course, the money being offered didn't hurt. The England international signed a contract worth a reported £60,000 per week, as just one of the many big contracts handed out at Loftus Road that season.

His time at QPR saw him fail to shine

The winger spent four seasons at QPR, with each one showing an ever-decreasing influence on the team.

His first year saw him start 24 times in the league, and the high-priced forward managed just five assists as the R's narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the season.

He played even less in the seasons following.

The winger managed just 14 starts in the 2012/13 season. However, he did score his first (and only) league goal for the club in a one-nil victory over former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

He was actually the club's least-effective player that season, ahead of other flops like Park Ji-Sung and Jose Boswingwa.

His one goal and one assist in 20 matches was a pathetic return, considering the £60,000 per week QPR were said to be paying him for his three-year deal.

The club were relegated that season, but bounced back at the first time of asking.

Sadly, he had little to do with, playing just 11 out of 46 matches in the Championship that year. He made even less appearances upon his return to the Premier League, featuring just four times under Harry Redknapp.

He rejected multiple chances to leave the club, instead remaining at QPR to collect his bumper wages, while barely featuring for the London side.

Overall, Wright-Phillips played only 67 league matches for QPR, an incredibly low number for the amount of money he cost the club. With just one goal and 7 assists during his four years at the club, there is nothing you could call the most except an abject failure.

The club eventually got their way in 2015, as he left the club to join his brother at New York Red Bulls after his contract expired. He barely featured, and retired just a a few years later in 2017 at the age of 37.

It seems as though Wright-Phillips career really ended when he signed for QPR. It wouldn't be long until he was out of the team, barely featuring and certainly not contributing to the team.

It was clearly a move just for the money, which if you put it that way was a total success for the player, just not so much for QPR.
