Queens Park Rangers are poised to seal a temporary deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dion Sanderson today, according to a report from West London Sport.

It was revealed yesterday that Sanderson was set to undergo a medical at the club this morning after a deal was agreed with Wolves.

Mark Warburton has been keen to strengthen his options in central-defence this month and is now seemingly set to secure the services of one of his main targets.

Following a loan spell at Sunderland last year, Sanderson was given the opportunity to showcase his talent in the Championship earlier this season by featuring for Birmingham City.

The 22-year-old went on to feature on 15 occasions at this level for the Blues before being recalled from his stint at St Andrew’s by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After Wolves made this decision, several Championship sides were linked with a move for Sanderson.

However, QPR have won the race for the defender who is now expected to line up for the club during the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Verdict

This could turn out to be a great bit of business by QPR if Sanderson hits the ground running at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Certainly no stranger to life in the Championship, the defender has made 25 appearances at this level during his career and thus he already knows just how competitive the division can be.

Whilst fellow defender Jordy de Wijs is now able to feature for the club’s senior side again following a spell on sidelines due to injury, there is no guarantee that he will maintain his fitness over the course of the coming months.

Therefore, signing Sanderson is a wise move as he will provide some added competition for places at centre-back.

Providing that the defender goes on to feature regularly for the R’s, he could boost his chances of forcing his way into contention for a place in Wolves’ starting eleven when he returns to Molineux later this year.
