Queens Park Rangers will be on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, and they may find the answer to their problems at League Two outfit Crawley Town.

The two primary shot-stoppers at Loftus Road are out of contract in the coming weeks and there has been no discussion over a new deal for either man.

It will leave the Hoops needing a replacement and one option that appears to fit manager Marti Cifuentes' style is Crawley's Corey Addai.

He is also out of contract this summer, so if they move fast they could pull off a low-cost deal for a quality replacement.

It has been 36-year-old former Everton man Asmir Begovic between the sticks for QPR this season, appearing in all but the final fixture against Coventry City and captaining the side throughout.

Due to his age, when he was signed last season as a free agent he was given a one-year deal by the club and despite the season now concluding, there has not been any talk of a renewal as yet.

With Begovic reaching the twilight of his career, and Cifuentes favouring playing out from the back rather than launching the ball forward in the traditional style, he may see that the time is right for a change.

The need for a new gloveman is compounded by the fact that current No.2, Joe Walsh, who deputised for the final game of the season, is also out of contract in the coming weeks and a new deal has not been forthcoming on that front either.

It appears to pave the way for a new man arriving in net at Loftus Road for the upcoming season.

Addai would fit the bill

Addai has had a successful League Two campaign for promotion-chasing Crawley Town and the 26-year-old has turned heads through his useful mix of calmness on the ball and shot-stopping ability.

His ability in possession and assured touch was caught perfectly in his side's recent play-off semi-final against MK Dons.

Red Devils midfielder Liam Kelly had his head in his hands after playing a long horror ball back towards his own goal, but it barely provoked a flinch from Addai, who calmly controlled it in his six-yard box, before quickly moving out wide and skipping past Dons forward Max Dean.

That would have been sufficient to deserve a round of applause from the crowd, but Crawley's no.1 went one better, launching a sweeping ball in behind the visitors' defence that almost found Adam Campbell at the other end.

It would have been enough to cause problems for many other goalkeepers, but not the unflappable Addai.

He is also more than capable with the traditional elements of goalkeeping too, boasting a save percentage of 76.3% which is estimated to have prevented 15.83 goals, according to FotMob.

QPR must act quick

A solid goalkeeper who looks ready-made to play the style of football that Cifuentes wants to impose at Loftus Road is a no-brainer.

The fact that Addai could be available on a free once the League Two play-offs have concluded means this deal makes even more sense, and QPR may need to act quickly if they want to pull it off.

Addai has settled in well at Crawley, but the offer of Championship football, playing week in, week out at Loftus Road, would likely be a tough offer to refuse.

The only downside is the 26-year-old's lack of experience at this level heading into what could be another tough season for QPR, but Addai looks ready for the step-up. The Hoops must act fast to secure his services and solve one of their biggest summer dilemmas.
