After relegation from the Championship, Huddersfield Town face the possibility of losing key players as Championship clubs look to take advantage of the Terriers' plight.

With the club playing in League One next season, some of their better players may wish to leave the club to play football at a higher level, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see a number of players leave the John Smith's Stadium in the coming weeks and months.

One player who could depart Huddersfield is attacker Sorba Thomas, with Alan Nixon reporting via his Patreon page that the club could offload him for a bargain £750,000 this summer.

Despite being contracted until 2026, selling Thomas would free up space and money for Michael Duff, and would allow the player to play at a higher level, so it could be a good move for all parties.

Carlton Palmer on Sorba Thomas' Huddersfield Town future

Former England international and current pundit Carlton Palmer believes that there won't be a shortage of suitors for Sorba Thomas should he leave Huddersfield, and has tipped his former side Sheffield Wednesday to move for him.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Palmer said: “It’s reported that Huddersfield Town’s Sorba Thomas will leave the club this summer for a cut-price fee, and it could be as minimal as £750,000.

“He’s under contract at the club until 2026, but he is unlikely that he’ll want to play in League One, and it appears that Huddersfield may be willing to cash in on their star man to raise funds.

“The Welsh international returned for the current campaign and showed why he probably should have been kept at the campaign last season.

“He’s been in outstanding form and, for £750k, I think he would interest a lot of clubs in the Championship, and if Sheffield Wednesday lose Josh Windass they may be looking at Sorba Thomas.

“There will be a lot of clubs interested in him at the top end of the Championship, especially if he’s available for a cut-price fee.

“Obviously, the manager will try and sit down with him to try and convince him to stay to get them promoted. I do think they will be at the top end of the table, so it might be something Thomas is interested in doing as he’s still a young man, but we’ll have to wait and see."

Sorba Thomas could be a good fit for Sheffield Wednesday

After a very decent season with Huddersfield Town, Sorba Thomas will likely feel that he's too good to drop to League One, and will want to continue playing in the second tier.

After scoring four times and registering nine assists in 41 league games, a decent return given Huddersfield's position, Thomas will be hoping that a club meets the Terriers' asking price of £750k.

The 25-year-old is a Welsh international, having played eight games for the country that his mother was born in, and dropping to League One could potentially harm his chance of being called up to Rob Pages's squads in the future.

13 goal involvements during the 2023/24 season should be enough to convince Championship clubs to take a punt on him this summer, and for a fee of just £750k, interested clubs would be silly not take advantage of that and sign him.

Sheffield Wednesday could and maybe should be one of those - it is not much of a significant location change and added depth in the attacking areas of the pitch will be needed, especially if Windass departs on a free transfer with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.
