Wales suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to Poland on Tuesday, with the defeat ending their hopes for the upcoming European Championship.

The Eagles converted five perfect penalties with Robert Lewandowski, Sebastian Szymanski, Przemyslaw Frankowski, Nicola Zalewski and Krzysztof Piatek all scoring.

Wales were just as impeccable as Ben Davies, Kieffer Moore, Harry Wilson and Neco Williams all converting their spot-kicks.

But Daniel James failed to beat the goalkeeper as Poland ran out 5-4 winners on penalties at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Reflecting on the match, football pundit Gabby Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT that he knew James would miss it due to his technical limitations.

“When I heard Dan James, when I saw he was the one that’s going to take it, I knew he was going to miss,” said Agbonlahor.

“If you watch Dan James as a player, he has got very good attributes, but technically he is not great.”

Daniel James has been playing a key role in Leeds’ bid for Premier League promotion this season.

The talented winger has featured in 34 Championship games, scoring 12 goals and creating six assists in the process.

He also did a decent job in Wales’ two Euro qualifiers after being featured off the bench by manager Rob Page.

But the 26-year-old missed the crucial penalty that ultimately proved to be very costly for the Dragons.

However, James shouldn’t dwell on that very much and return his focus to the Championship where Leeds will be up against Watford on Friday.
