USMNT coach has labelled Milan star Christian Pulisic as ‘one of the best offensive players in the world’, but explained that his strong form in Serie A is a cause for concern for his national team.
Pochettino, who was appointed head coach of the USA national team in September, gave his pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of his side’s upcoming game against Panama.
Pochettino spoke very highly of Pulisic, who has five goals and two assists from his first seven Serie A matches of the 2024-25 campaign.
The USMNT coach described Pulisic as: “A great player, fantastic player, a player that is going to help now and in the future to put the team in a place that we want. He’s a fantastic player, one of the best offensive players in the world.”
However, the Rossoneri star’s good form is also a concern for his national team coach. Pochettino admitted that the player arrived for international duty slightly fatigued after playing such an important role in San Siro at the start of the 2024-25 campaign.
He feels that Pulisic’s form has been so strong that Milan have not been able to give him a rest at any point this season.
The coach went on to explain that sometimes, players’ minutes will need to be managed in order to get the best out of them for club and country.
“He’s playing every single game, every single minute, something that we are a little bit worried about. Sometimes we need to protect, because he arrived a little bit tired. But that’s something I’ve spoken about before, to be in a very good relationship with the club.
“When we really need him, he needs to be in form, happy, strong, because he has enormous talent, he’s a fantastic player.”
